I will ensure to provide a caring, safe environment as I assist you in exploring your concerns, difficulties and relationships in their complexity; for these are the vital parts of you that need attention and are, simultaneously, your pathway to growth, empowerment, and well-being. By exploring these issues, you can become aware of how your past experiences have influenced who you are now and how you relate to others. Change occurs through self-awareness. The more you observe and discover, the more your awareness grows, allowing self-compassion and inner wisdom to emerge and be your ultimate guide.
I teach various mindfulness techniques to clients - they are great tools to increase your awareness and ease anxiety. Mindfulness is paying attention to our present moment experience with openness and curiosity and a willingness to be with what is. Fear and sadness are sometimes normal and healthy emotions we need to feel and tend to, but often we quickly avoid these emotions and push them away. Unconsciously, we try to think our way out of them; we ruminate on how to make them stop, we strategize, we plan, we worry, which only makes us feel more intensely the emotions we were trying to avoid, occasionally turning into severe depression and anxiety. Mindfulness breaks this cycle, and instead we intentionally place our awareness into our experience in the present moment. It's also a time to breathe, trust, and send kindness to ourselves so that we can heal and feel peace again.
If an individual has experienced trauma, traditional talk therapy may not be helpful enough to heal. Our bodies store many of our emotional traumas, which can cause debilitating symptoms such as re-experiencing the traumatic event, avoidance, nightmares, increased anxiety and emotional arousal. Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM), helps clients who have experienced trauma to view their symptoms as biological rather than pathological. Clients learn how to take cues from their body, track their own nervous systems, and create a cognitive resource to cultivate more feelings of well-being. These embodied skills helps client’s self-regulate their nervous system, reprocess traumatic events, and builds a greater resiliency during distressful times.
